Not a totally boring blog about acupuncture, breathwork, energy medicine, and self-healing

At my office in Manhattan (Flatiron / Union Square / Chelsea), I see patients who are dealing with chronic pain (back pain, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, and ankle pain), headaches + migraines, digestive issues (IBS, colitis), infertility, stress, insomnia, PMS, women's health, and autoimmune conditions (Lyme, Hashimoto's, thyroid conditions, and many more).

How to navigate holiday eating situations....and love yourself and everyone else while doing it

Aimée Derbes

This time of year, oh my god -- it can feel impossible to feel relaxed and rooted in healthy food and lifestyle habits when constant holiday parties, “treats” hanging around the office, and potentially stressful family holiday trips and meals are all happening.

But there is really always a way to fully support yourself, no matter the environment, and it doesn’t have to involve contraction, bracing yourself, or over-controlling every aspect of your experience. Here’s what I’ve learned, friends!

The summer of love : it’s not about your heart, but your pericardium

Aimée Derbes

What if your heart doesn’t need to be healed, because it’s already whole? How does it feel, knowing that, at your core, there’s nothing broken, nothing that needs fixing? It’s just your pericardium that needs a little support, so that it can allow your heart to express its perfection.

The pericardium is the one reading the room, evaluating what’s safe for us, how much openness, if any, is appropriate in any given situation. The pericardium, not the heart, yanks up the drawbridge when it feels threatened or unsure about another person. The pericardium absorbs all the pain from physical and emotional stress, so that none of it reaches the heart, and in the process, forms our own particular patterns of shielding and armoring. Our pericardium does everything it can to protect us from feeling our pain.

But if this is the case, what do we do when the gatekeeper is impaired?

On not having all the answers

Aimée Derbes

Getting this out of the way : I'm not perfect, and I don't have all the answers. You know this about me by now, but in case you're new here (hi!) and missed it : despite all of my experience, effort, and education, my hair will always be a total mess, I look tons of work-related things up in reference books every day, I still can't figure out how to cook rice (seriously, wtf?!), I need like 7 alarms to get me out of bed, and attempts at reforming my cursing like a sailor have thus far all failed (see last parentheses).

Want to know how my imperfection is relevant to you? Read on...
