Not a totally boring blog about acupuncture, breathwork, energy medicine, and self-healing

At my office in Manhattan (Flatiron / Union Square / Chelsea), I see patients who are dealing with chronic pain (back pain, neck and shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, and ankle pain), headaches + migraines, digestive issues (IBS, colitis), infertility, stress, insomnia, PMS, women's health, and autoimmune conditions (Lyme, Hashimoto's, thyroid conditions, and many more).

Aimée Derbes

“That sounds real nice, Aimée, way,” you might be thinking. “I’m feeling pretty tired. Like, I’ve been dragging myself through the things I need to do each day. I can’t think, I feel like I could sleep 11 hours per night and still be tired, and I definitely don’t have enough energy to exercise.”

Maybe you have been feeling exhausted, or tired and wired, for a while now. Read on for the East Asian medicine understanding for why you’ve been so fatigued, and what you can do to support your energy.

The Earth Phase is the center of it all

Aimée Derbes

Today, we’re taking a deep dive into how certain physical issues, thought patterns, and behaviors all connect, how they can show up in your health and in your life, and how to shift your energy and health to something that looks more like...

Feeling truly nourished. Living in integrity. Allowing things to cycle through to fruition, harvest, and completion. Feeding your appetite for new experiences and perspectives. Easily digesting, assimilating, and integrating of foods and ideas. Living from a bottomless well of energy that is constantly being replenished. Giving and receiving support in balanced exchange.

Sounds amazing, right? That’s what the earth phase, one of the five in Chinese five phase theory, looks like when it’s in full, glorious, energizing balance, and it’s the foundation and center of your best possible health and life.

The summer of love : it’s not about your heart, but your pericardium

Aimée Derbes

What if your heart doesn’t need to be healed, because it’s already whole? How does it feel, knowing that, at your core, there’s nothing broken, nothing that needs fixing? It’s just your pericardium that needs a little support, so that it can allow your heart to express its perfection.

The pericardium is the one reading the room, evaluating what’s safe for us, how much openness, if any, is appropriate in any given situation. The pericardium, not the heart, yanks up the drawbridge when it feels threatened or unsure about another person. The pericardium absorbs all the pain from physical and emotional stress, so that none of it reaches the heart, and in the process, forms our own particular patterns of shielding and armoring. Our pericardium does everything it can to protect us from feeling our pain.
But if this is the case, what do we do when the gatekeeper is impaired?

Aimée Derbes

You may have noticed that energy has been moving rapidly over the past 2 weeks. The trees and flowers are blooming. We are all outside, having picnics and long walks around the park, saying hello to strangers again, stretching and moving our bodies, seeing how things feel this side of winter. So, how does your body feel? What have you been hunkered down with, enduring, white-knuckling through day in and day out over the last few months?

Spring is the perfect time to make space in your mind, in your schedule, in your life, for your own healing and evolution. If I can connect you to resources that will help you feel better and move forward, is that something you'd be interested in hearing more about? I'm here to connect you to the support you're seeking, no matter where you are and what you need.
