BREATHWORK

Breathwork includes a variety of targeted breathing techniques to consciously influence the state of the nervous system. In my practice, the main tool I offer as a Certified Breathwork Healer is a fast-paced 3-part breathing pattern, which is what some call circular breathing, continuous breathing, or conscious connected breathing. A powerful tool for self-healing, breathwork helps us to step out of the dominance of the thinking mind and contact the emotional brain and body. Through this somatic meditation practice, we can connect to our deeper selves beyond our everyday minds, move stuck energy and emotions, and expand our ability to engage with the richness of our lives.

I currently offer the following Breathwork services:

01 75 minute sessions, both in office and virtual via Zoom

02 Discounted packages of 5 Breathwork Sessions. Available here.

03 Virtual breathwork groups. View upcoming workshops.

WHY BREATHWORK?

We experience our lives through a lens unique to our experience. Alongside love, joy, compassion, and our other gifts, our lenses include pain, fear, trauma, grief, and inherited or learned beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. Some of this may be conscious, but much of it lies tucked away in our bodies, beyond the realm of our mind’s understanding. Breathwork is a simple tool that supports us in accessing these stored energies, emotions, and memories, especially the unconscious ones. And as Jung says, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

Since becoming a Certified Breathwork Healer in 2018, I have observed through many sessions and group workshops that breathwork complements other healing methods (such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, reiki, therapy, and so on) beautifully. A somatic meditation practice, it offers a different way of accessing and clearing whatever might lie in between you and a fuller experience of life. By supporting you in both releasing and receiving more, this technique can help shift body and mind into a more receptive mode, allowing your other healing treatments to penetrate more deeply.

We are all inherently creative, whether we use our creativity consciously or not. Many people practice breathwork because it can lead to major shifts and breakthroughs in creative projects, as it opens up a unique receptive mind space for ideas and inspiration to come through clearly.

Because we all have the gift of breath, breathwork is for most people*: even if you have experienced anxiety or panic attacks; even if you have a history of asthma; even if you live with chronic pain; and more. If you have questions about whether and how breathwork may or may not be a fit for your unique circumstances, please ask!

BREATHWORK WORKSHOPS

All workshops are held virtually. In the past, workshops have been held virtually and in person in New York City healing arts spaces such as Maha Rose, HealHaus, and Space by Mama Medicine. In person workshops will resume in mid-2024!

“I feel like more shifted in this one session than in the past year of weekly therapy. I feel SO happy!”

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

I believe that a healing session begins the moment the appointment is made.

We will open your virtual session on Zoom by checking in about whatever it is that inspired you to decide to seek out support. This may include a brief guided meditation as well.

Then, you will lie down and get comfortable. I suggest having an eye pillow or scarf to help turn your mental attention inward, and an extra blanket nearby as temperature fluctuations are common during breathwork.

The breathing portion is around 45 minutes in total, with 35 minutes of the active breath followed by 10-15 minutes of rest and integration. During the breathing, I provide guidance to help you move past resistance, stay focused on your breath, and clear and release anything that comes up. I usually play music during the breathing and have created many playlists specifically for breathwork.

Many people find this deeply relaxing and may fall into a meditative state or asleep; others find it energizing and stimulating, and there is no single right experience.

We then close by checking in about how it went, and if there is any additional information to share, I will share that. We may also discuss tools and practices that you can use at home to support yourself.

After a session, people often feel some combination of clarity, calm, connection to yourself and others, compassion, forgiveness, groundedness, enlivened, and / or creatively inspired. Sometimes the emotional energy continues to unwind for hours or several days afterward.
